Don't DIS my ABILITY!

Ronna Soffer, Tel Aviv

Sexuality for me is many things – a feeling, a desire, a wanting, physicalness, nature. I must not give up my sexuality, sexuality is life. I feel sexy as a person with disabilities and there’s no doubt I had to acquire ownership over my sexuality in order to get to the place where I am. I decided that regardless of what society says, I am a sexual gal. Unfortunately, this whole discourse is still taboo, especially among disabled people. I am surprised that people with disabilities, who can’t ignore their bodies for a single minute, are the ones that society sees as a-sexual. This social perception is very common, to the point where many of the disabled accept it as true. This is wrong, of course. Every man and every woman are sexual.
